Our Journey

Utah Outdoor Therapies was initially built to be a full service mental health treatment center for people in the state of Utah. As the organization was being created the founders instantly became aware of the vast number of providers that already existed and the challenges that clients had with gaining insurance coverage and finding a treatment program that met their needs at a cost they could afford. The founders of UTOT saw clearly how they could fill a need in the community. They realized they could provide a high quality outdoor mental health treatment program that could act as a supplement for people who were involved in mental health treatment. This would encourage a lifestyle change and lead to a remarkable change in the mental health of individuals here in the state of Utah. In the process the founders of UTOT were also able to create a work environment that could allow educated professionals to work in the outdoor field they love without leaving their families for long periods of time.
What we Offer
Learn more about how we provide outdoor mental health support in a way that works for both the clients and the staff at UTOT

Treatment Options That Meet Your Needs
Our programs run Monday through Saturday and are established to meet the needs of any schedule. We primarily run day programs that take place in the Uinta National Forest right outside of Salt lake. We offer programs where participants self report to the trails and others where we provide transportation. Additionally, we have programs that are entry level; providing all the gear and training for those who are new to the outdoors. We also provide programs that are for experienced adventure enthusiasts that are just looking to be a part of a like minded community. We strive to find adventures that can be accessed throughout the year. In the summer we offer hiking, outdoor climbing, backpacking, and mountain biking. During the colder months we offer snow hiking, indoor rock climbing, pickle ball, axe throwing, martial arts, and more.
Highly Trained Employees
Many outdoor programs have challenges finding employees because of the distance staff have to travel for work and because of challenging schedules that are required due to having multiple day programs. At UTOT we offer conventional schedules that allow employees to have an amazing work life balance. We also invest heavily in continuing education for our employees to ensure that they have the confidence to be successful in their efforts as a part of a mental health support team. Finally, because of our community based approach we have access to some of the most highly trained mental health professionals in the area. Not only do we directly hire these professionals, but we also allow mental health providers to give trainings and workshops at all of our programs to help support their businesses and give participants an opportunity to learn about additional treatment resources in their community.
An Organization Driven to Serve The Community.
Everything we do at UTOT is focused on our mission of making outdoor and adventure based mental health treatment more accessible to individuals and families in Utah. We do this by providing free access to outdoor programs for the clients of providers who partner with us. In addition, we also provide grant funding for further mental health treatment, collect donations of used outdoor gear for repurposing, build up community partners to increase treatment outcomes, and clean trails on excursions. UTOT is dedicated to supporting the community and the outdoors in all that we do. In order to make this happen we have partnered with other organizations like the Jordan River Commission, Patagonia, Utah EMT, and REI. We are grateful for all these organizations do to support us and the people we work with.
