Our Story

Utah Outdoor Therapies was initially built to be a full service mental health treatment center for people in the state of Utah. As the organization was being created the founders instantly became aware of the vast number of providers that already existed and the challenges that clients had with gaining insurance coverage and finding a treatment program that met their needs at a cost they could afford. The founders of UTOT saw clearly how they could fill a need in the community. They realized they could provide a high quality outdoor mental health treatment program that could act as a supplement for people who were involved in mental health treatment. They also realized that they could provide these services to those in Utah who weren't currently in treatment as a preventative resource. This would encourage a lifestyle change and lead to a remarkable change in the mental health of individuals here in the state of Utah. In the process the founders of UTOT were also able to create a work environment that could allow educated professionals to work in the outdoor field they love without leaving their families for long periods of time.

Free Community Activites

We currently host one free outdoor or adventure based activity a month. These activities get people involved in recreation to improve their mental health. We offer activities like hiking, rock climbing, paddle boarding, kayaking, pickle ball, skim boarding, axe throwing, indoor rock climbing, snowshoeing, and so much more. We fund all our activities through grants, donations, and other fundraising events. Our goal is to continually provide one activity a month for free to eliminate barriers that make it challenging for people to improve their mental health. We have a limited number of slots available for each activity and they are offered on a first come first serve basis. All necessary gear and training will be provided for the activities offered. We ask that those interested in signing up bring at least 32 ounces of water and any snacks they might need. Click "See Activities" to learn more and get tickets for our next adventure!

Low Cost Community Activities

In addition to hosting free outdoor activities we also frequently offer low cost outdoor an adventure based outings. These events give Utah residents continual access to activities at a cost they can actually afford. Low cost activities are staffed by volunteer therapists and mental health professionals who are looking for ways to give back to the community. No diagnosis is necessary to attend our low cost activities and they give you access extremely valuable resources. Staff members and volunteers provide coaching on outdoor activities, community and emotional support all at a price cheaper than a copay. These activities are a great resource for those looking to improve their mental health and who would not otherwise be able to afford a service like this. All are welcome. Private Activities

Everything we do at UTOT is focused on our mission of making outdoor and adventure based mental health treatment more accessible to individuals and families in Utah. In order to make this happen we have partnered with several addiction and mental health treatment centers to provide activities for their clients. We aim to host one activity a month for each facility that we partner with. We specialize in working with addiction treatment centers, mental health treatment centers, and autism intervention centers. We are always excited to explore opportunities to begin hosting activities with new organizations. Private activities are for groups as small as ten people and will take groups even larger than 60 people on outdoor and adventure based activities. These activities are typically billed at $15 a person. We pride ourselves in our ability to reduce costs by partnering with other organizations who desire to give back to the community they love.
