Fundraising Activities
Our mission at Utah Outdoor Therapies is to make outdoor and adventure based mental health treatment more accessible for individuals and families here in the greater Salt Lake area. This is a goal that requires support from many other organizations. We are so grateful to all our partners and donors who continually give so that we can continue to serve those with mental health challenges. In order to continually serve more of our community, we are excited to begin hosting some of our first ever fundraising activities. These are paid activities for the general public. At these activities we will host competitions, dinners, raffles, silent auctions and open donations. All proceeds from these activities will go towards funding our organization's mission. By hosting these activities, we are able to continue providing free activities as a community resource and low-cost private activities to treatment centers and other partners here in the Salt Lake area.
Our Mission
Utah Outdoor Therapies offers free outdoor activities for individuals in Utah. Our mission is to make outdoor mental health treatment more accessible by providing outdoor activities at no cost. We hope that in doing this we can eliminate barriers that prevent people from seeking the help they need. Spending time outdoors and actively moving improves overall mental health and increases quality of life. Many people cannot participate in outdoor activities due to cost, scheduling, and long travel. At Utah Outdoor Therapies we provide these activities for free and we hold these activities every month here in the Salt Lake Valley so that we can increase access to the amazing mental health resources that we have here in our community.
Our Founder's Story
I grew up in a city about twenty minutes outside of Seattle, Washington. I was raised in a loving family that had significant challenges with mental health. While I was young my dad battled with addiction. While I was in high school and in adulthood I experienced depression. And in my marriage I have watched my wife suffer with depression and anxiety. I knew I wanted to work in the mental health treatment field. I also know that time outside and being active had a profound impact on my mental health. Sadly, I realized that nearly every job in outdoor mental health treatment required a schedule that demanded long periods of time away from family. I decided I would build something that provided me the time necessary to be with my family and gave me the opportunity to provide resources to those in need. Creating Utah Outdoor Therapies has been an exciting journey and I can't wait to see how the outdoors will continue to change lives.
